What is a word counter?

A word counter is a tool that analyzes a piece of text and reports how many words, characters, sentences, and paragraphs it contains. Word counters are commonly used by writers, bloggers, students, and professionals who need to meet specific length requirements for essays, articles, reports, or social media posts.

This tool goes beyond basic counting by also calculating reading time (based on an average of 200 words per minute) and speaking time (based on an average of 130 words per minute), which are helpful for planning presentations, speeches, and content pacing.

Input notes

The tool handles any text input, including Unicode characters and multi-line content. Words are counted by splitting on whitespace, sentences are detected by punctuation marks followed by whitespace or end of text, and paragraphs are counted as blocks of non-empty lines separated by blank lines.
